The 2019 Sheriff’s Tax Lien Sale will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:00 am in the County Commission meeting room.  Bidders may sign-up between 9:45 and 10:00 am.  The list of properties that may be bid upon will be available after the close of business on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 on the Tax Office website www.brookecountysheriff.com/tax .  This list will also be provided at the sale along with detailed instructions regarding the requirements for purchasers.  The minimum bid is the current amount due for the 2018 & 2019 taxes on each parcel, however, bids may exceed this amount.  The tax lien will be sold to the highest bidder.  Payment in full is required on the day of sale.  Failure to pay or return of a check is cause for refusal of the bidder’s participation in future Sheriff’s Tax Lien Sales.

Only tax liens are sold, not the real property.  Any interested party (owner, heir, lienholder, etc.) has until March 31, 2021 to redeem.  If redemption is made, and purchaser has followed the instructions from the WV State Auditor, the bid amount & all related costs will be refunded.  If all instructions are followed and redemption is not made, a deed will be issued to the purchaser.  However, if any action required of the purchaser is not completed, a deed will not be issued by the Auditor  & no refunds will be made.
