The staff of the Brooke County Sheriff’s Tax Office is dedicated to serving our citizens through the collection of property taxes for distribution to all levying bodies as well as renewal of vehicle registrations. We strive to provide a pleasant environment and to assist our customers to the best of our abilities.

Fees for Online Tax Payment

Our 3rd party payment processor charges these fees directly to the taxpayer. Fees are as follows:

  • Credit card 2.5% - minimum of $1.50 (Minimum fee increases to $2.00 January 1, 2023.)
  • Debit card $3.95 fee up to $500.00 or 2.5% over $500.00

With procedure changes resulting from WV Senate Bill 552, tax liens for delinquent 2022 real estate taxes are certified to the WV State Auditor as of November 1.

Liens that were Certified to the State should be redeemed through the WV State Auditor's office. Please note that there is a shorter redemption period than in the past. Properties Certified to the State will be subject to sale by the Auditor in the spring/summer of 2024 at the Brooke County Courthouse. Please contact the Auditor's office after Decemeber 1, 2023 about redemption.
