THRU FEBRUARY 29TH & JUNE 1ST THRU SEPTEMBER 31ST
24 HOURS
1. Call the Brooke County
Sheriff's Department before burning. (304.737.3660)
2. To ensure that a fire will not escape, a safety strip is
required around the material to be burned. This
safety strip must be cleared down to mineral soil, be no less than 10 feet
around the material to be burned and free of all flammable materials.
3. Residents who
conduct outdoor burning are required to attend the fire at all times and
completely extinguish the fire before leaving the area.
4. Only vegetative material can be burned, including leaves, limbs and brush.
5. Anyone setting a fire outdoors must remain with the fire until it is
completely extinguished.
6. If a fire escapes, the person who set it is liable for any damage it causes
to another's property and for cost to suppress the fire.
Note:
It is important to call the Brooke County Sheriff's Department before burning,
so we can have your information in the event that someone calls us reporting a
fire. Also, on occasion the EPA or WV DEP (air quality) will put a ban on
burning due to poor air quality.
